2014 Daily Athenaeum
Katy Ryan, Associate Professor of the WVU English department and founder of APBP, was recognized in April 2014 in The Daily Athenaeum, WVU’s student newspaper. Katy had recently been named the recipient of the Neil S. Bucklew award by the WVU Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for her work with APBP. The article ends with a mention of the Educational Justice and Appalachian Prisons Symposium, co-coordinated by Katy and held April 4-6 at the WVU Downtown Campus.

2012 Associated Press Coverage!
On November 22nd, 2012 an article about APBP was published by the Associated Press. Vicki Smith, the article’s author, writes:
Other states have had prison book programs for decades, from California to Illinois and Texas to Massachusetts. Pennsylvania alone has at least six.
But until professor Katy Ryan taught a course on prison literature in 2004, West Virginia and the other five states had none. She and her graduate students discussed the need, spent two years raising money and collecting books, then started taking requests.
